First Girls Soccer Regional

By Student Reproter Ashley Turnquist

On Thursday June 3rd, the girl’s soccer team went into their first regional game against Dominican. Rockets were ahead in the beginning of the first half with a goal by Senior Rachel Slotman. The goal was scored with an assist corner kick from freshman Alex Buechler, Rachel was lucky enough to get her head on the ball and into the goal. Shortly after the Rockets scored Dominican fought back with a goal to tie up the game. At the end of the first half Dominican and Cedar Grove were tied with one goal each. Going into the 2nd half both teams were fighting hard for a goal. The game of one of the most physical games the Rockets have played in this whole season. There were no goals scored in the 2nd half. The Rockets went into a double over time with Dominican, still no goals were scored. Since it was a regional game the girls would have to go into a shoot out. Coach Papi Pozo had to choose 5 players to take the kicks. He chose senior Rachel Slotman, senior Hannah Kaul, freshman Alex Buechler, freshman Caitlin Hausner, and freshman Haley Schieffer. Rachel, Hannah, and Caitlin all made their goals. Dominican missed their last kicking winning the Rockets the game. There was no need for Haley to take the last shot because the rockets already won. On Saturday June 5th the Rockets will play their 2nd regional game at 12am. Good Luck Rockets!

Mr. Paulson

By Student Reporter Justin De Smidt

After 41 great years, Thomas Paulson has finally thrown in the towel and has retired from the Cedar Grove-Belgium High School band. Every student has ever been taught can say that he was a thoughtful person and cared very much of his job and the people around him. Mr. Paulson has left many memories at the school and people will never forget all he has done for it. Mr. Paulson gave his famous “Prom Speech” every year to his students as a reminder to be nice to the ladies and to get a few laughs. The band room will always be remembered as “Paulson’s Palace.” We wish him the best of luck as he plans to continue working with music around the state of Wisconsin.

Raising Money for the Yearbook

By Student Reporter Nikki Kluck

Publications students are often asked about publications class when they are selling popcorn at Cedar Grove-Belgium High School sporting events. In publications, students work on the yearbook, take student photos, sell ads to businesses, and work the popcorn stand. The popcorn stand helps raise money for the yearbook, and that money makes the yearbook less expensive for students. This year we need to raise just under $20,000 for the yearbooks we want, which sell for $65 a piece. This year we made additions to the year book. They will be in full color as usual, we added more pages, and we are getting a cut out cover. Right now students have raised approximately $10,000, which means they have a long way to go. The next time you buy popcorn at sporting events, you will know what the money is used for.

AP U.S. History

By Student Reporter Brenden Lopez

Recently, Lakeland College has decided to make Advanced U.S. History a college credit class. In order to receive the college credit, students will have to get an A or B for the semester and they must pay three hundred dollars. Mr. Claerbaut, the Advanced U.S. History teacher recommends that the students think about getting the credit because it is much cheaper and by getting college credits in high school the students will be going into college with more credits than some of the other freshman. By having more credits from the start, it allows the students to pick their classes first and possibly get better schedules. Almost all of the colleges in Wisconsin will accept the credits but some will not. Also, if students are planning on going to college out of state they will have to check with the college they are thinking of going to to see if they will accept the credits. Current students and future students should think about this and ask their parents about it as well.

Pep Band

By Student Reporter Jackson Holle

The Cedar Grove High School band directed by Tom Paulson has the opportunity to play pep band music before a number of basketball games and wrestling meets. Performances occur after the junior varsity game and before the varsity game and before wrestling meets. The latest of which was on January 12 for the boy’s basketball game against Kohler. The band has used this opportunity to showcase their talents to all of those in attendance and to provide a musical performance for the players as they warm up. It is a great chance to hear your high school band and watch the game, so get there early.

Because of scheduling difficulties the band can only play at the events with the greatest number of band students able to come. This is why the band was not able to play for a volleyball game or a soccer game this school year. The pep band playing schedule goes as fallows: January 26th for the boy’s game against Elkhart Lake, February 5th for the girl’s game against Stockbridge, February 9th for the boy’s game against Random Lake, and the last one of the school year will be February 16th for the girl’s game against Elkhart Lake.

Don’t worry if you can’t attend, there are still four more days to take part in the fun, January 15th (boys against Sheboygan Lutheran), January 22nd (girls against Ozaukee), February 15th (girls against Elkhart Lake), and February 18th (boys against Oostburg). If you need some black attire to wear to these games, the basketball team is selling shirts for $7. See Mr. Ketterhagan if interested. The players and coaches are excited for the support from the fans. “It’ll be fun to see all the black in the stands,” says Coach Ketterhagan.

Girls Basketball Game vs. Dominican Monday Night

By Student Reporter Brittni Emperely

On Monday, January 8th, the Cedar Grove-Belgium Girls Basketball team will be taking on Dominican at home. Dominican is said to be a good team and will be a great competition for the girls. Mr.Coopman scouted Dominican on Tuesday and said that they were a very good basketball team, and they have talent. One of Dominicans best players, Dasia, scored 38 points at the game on Tuesday. Being only a sophomore, this is very outstanding. They are a fast team and Cedar Grove’s defense will have to be at their best. If Cedar Grove plays at their best performance, there is no doubt they will be able to pull off a win. The Cedar Grove-Belgium girl’s team is looking forward to this game since the last few games they have played have been lacking competition. We wish the best of luck to the girl’s basketball team. Go Rockets!
