First Girls Soccer Regional

By Student Reproter Ashley Turnquist

On Thursday June 3rd, the girl’s soccer team went into their first regional game against Dominican. Rockets were ahead in the beginning of the first half with a goal by Senior Rachel Slotman. The goal was scored with an assist corner kick from freshman Alex Buechler, Rachel was lucky enough to get her head on the ball and into the goal. Shortly after the Rockets scored Dominican fought back with a goal to tie up the game. At the end of the first half Dominican and Cedar Grove were tied with one goal each. Going into the 2nd half both teams were fighting hard for a goal. The game of one of the most physical games the Rockets have played in this whole season. There were no goals scored in the 2nd half. The Rockets went into a double over time with Dominican, still no goals were scored. Since it was a regional game the girls would have to go into a shoot out. Coach Papi Pozo had to choose 5 players to take the kicks. He chose senior Rachel Slotman, senior Hannah Kaul, freshman Alex Buechler, freshman Caitlin Hausner, and freshman Haley Schieffer. Rachel, Hannah, and Caitlin all made their goals. Dominican missed their last kicking winning the Rockets the game. There was no need for Haley to take the last shot because the rockets already won. On Saturday June 5th the Rockets will play their 2nd regional game at 12am. Good Luck Rockets!
