Jim Burton was selected as the Bada Bing Student of the month for the month of February. When asked how he felt about being the student of the month he said “I feel proud and honored to have been chosen as Bada Bing’s Student of the Month let alone to have been nominated.” His favorite classes this year are Advanced Woodworking, Marketing, and being a Teacher’s Assistant. Jim is involved in school plays, Soccer, Best Buddies, Art Club, and Freshman Mentors. Outside of school he is involved in RCYF, Campus Life, First Friday Fellowship, and he works at Camp Evergreen. After High school Jim plans on attending UW-Eau Claire to study Special Education and Secondary Education. Congratulations Jim, on being chosen as Bada Bing’s Student of the Month.

Rocket Choir

There is chance for a class that will give singers more opportunities to sing and improve there skills next year. Rocket Choir is more for the students who really enjoy singing and want to take it really serious. Rocket Choir is more advanced of a class as Concert Choir and the only way to join Rocket Choir is to try out to the Harmonia Mundi. Try outs start on Thursday February 18, at 11:30a.m. in the Choir room. Good luck singers.

Girls Basketball Senior Night

On Tuesday, February 16th, the girls’ basketball team celebrated the 2009-2010 seniors. The senior girls include Mariah Keller, Kristen Slotman, Rachel Slotman and Hannah Kaul. Each one of the girls participated in basketball all four years of their high school careers. At the game on Tuesday, the girls played against Elkhart Lake-Glenbeulah. In the end, Cedar Grove-Belgium won with a score of 42-28. When asked about the season and its end, Hannah Kaul said, “I’m going to miss my coaches but mostly my teammates.” The girls will be missed by their teammates next year, but they will always be remembered!

Movin' n Munchin'

On February 26, 2010 the Movin 'n Munchin program will be held in the middle school gym at 1:00 pm. The program talks about the importance of healthy eating and fitness. They want to encourage kids, their families, and schools to have a regular physical activity throughout the day and also have a healthy meal.
Mrs. Albright selected our district and sent off an email to request that the program comes to our school. The program is sponsored by WEA out of Madison. The two main spokespersons for this event are two Olympians, Suzy Favor Hamilton and Casey FitzRandolph. The high school cross country team will be helping since there will be many kids involved. During the program the Olympians will give a speech along with a highlight films and activities. More information can be found on the school website.

Junior Prom

In preparation for prom, the Class of 2011 will be holding its annual spaghetti dinner to raise money. The spaghetti dinner will take place on February 18th before the boy’s basketball game against Oostburg. Sales will begin at 4:30 and end right before the boy’s Varsity game. The cost of the dinner will be five dollars. The cost will include spaghetti, garlic bread, a drink, and also a dessert. The junior class would appreciate as many people as possible to attend and help make their prom possible. This year’s prom will be held at the Country Inn and Suites located in Port Washington. This is a different location then where it has been in previous years. It is only the second time prom has been held off campus. Your attendance to this year’s fundraiser would be greatly appreciated. The junior class hopes to see you there!

The Joe Schueller Band has played at various events throughout the past year. Some past shows include 5th Quarter and after last Homecoming. The band includes Jonathon “Chubbs” Herzog on drums, Joe Schueller on lead guitar, Jake Prinsen on rhythm guitar, Brandon Miles on bass, and Conner Novack on vocals. If you haven’t had the chance to see them perform yet clear your schedule for February 6th. The Joe Schueller Band plans on having a concert at the Holland Town Hall, starting at 8:00 p.m. and ends at 10:00 p.m. Doors open at 7:30. Admission is $5.00; a small price to pay for a good time! Joe Schueller encourages everyone to attend, “It’ll be a good live show. Be there or be square.”

Raising Money for the Yearbook

Publications students are often asked about publications class when they are selling popcorn at Cedar Grove-Belgium High School sporting events. In publications, students work on the yearbook, take student photos, sell ads to businesses, and work the popcorn stand. The popcorn stand helps raise money for the yearbook, and that money makes the yearbook less expensive for students. This year we need to raise just under $20,000 for the yearbooks we want, which sell for $65 a piece. This year we made additions to the year book. They will be in full color as usual, we added more pages, and we are getting a cut out cover. Right now students have raised approximately $10,000, which means they have a long way to go. The next time you buy popcorn at sporting events, you will know what the money is used for.
